When someone traces their family tree in America, they will undoubtedly find ancestors that lived in Virginia. As Robert Byrd said, "In the beginning, all America was Virginia."
This project is dedicated to all the volunteers of the VAGenWeb project. Some of their names you will find on the attached pages, others you will not.
Visit the USGenWeb page.
The USGenWeb project is a loosely organized group of volunteers working to create a center for genealogical research for every county in the United States. USGenWeb is not a commercial enterprise and information found on these pages is freely available to the public. As you browse the pages, you will find some consistent elements. All counties will have an area for you to post queries and links to the state page and USGenWeb Archives. You will also see considerable variation; each page or database is the creation, property and responsibility of an individual volunteer. We are very proud of this project and hope that you are too. If you would like to help, please contact the state or county coordinator for the area that interests you.
Thank you for visiting VAGenWeb. We are proud to be a part of the USGenWeb project, which is an effort to organize genealogical materials on the Internet. Our goal is to provide a web site specializing in the genealogy in Virginia with an emphasis on genealogy at the county level. We also have created an Archives which will serve as a respository for transcriptions of public records. Our project's success is only possible through the support of volunteers. Volunteers are needed in all phases of this project including hosts to maintain individual county pages, volunteers to submit transcribed public records for use in the USGenWeb Archives, and people to share their own personal resources by doing lookups for other researchers. Would you like to help?
This project was started in June, 1996, As the months pass, we hope
to have more and more information available to you. Some counties
may have
Adopt Me
prominently displayed in the table of
county pages,
which means that we need a volunteer to host the webpages as part of VAGenWeb.
To volunteer for a adoptable county in Virginia, or to express your interest in
adopting a county should it become available, contact
Fred Spradlin State Coordinator.
Guidelines for hosting a VAGenWeb county page can be viewed
HERE. The only
addition
to the requirements laid down by the USGenWeb Project, each VAGenWeb county homepage
must display the VAGenWeb logo.
If you'd like my take on the duties/qualifications of a county host, please read
